The nonprofit sector is racially and socially diverse, but the pool of grant awardees is not.
Studies continue to show that nonprofits led by people of color and members of other historically marginalized communities receive less grant funding and fewer total grants than their white, non-marginalized counterparts. In fact, a Nonprofit Finance Fund survey found that white-led nonprofits were nearly twice as likely to receive unrestricted grants than their BIPOC counterparts.
This inequity persists despite many grant makers’ recent creation of funding opportunities focused specifically on diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) in response to the social justice movement. This is because the very nonprofits exhibiting the diversity that grant makers seek to bolster with these focused funding opportunities have historically operated on much smaller budgets than their non-marginalized peers, and their resultant lack of resources (i.e., staff, time, expertise, finances) continually forces them to choose between preparing low-quality grant applications and not applying for crucial grant funding at all.

Enter Granted Access.
Granted Access disrupts this cycle by providing free grant writing services and education to nonprofits with leaders belonging to historically marginalized populations who would otherwise not have the resources to successfully and/or sustainably pursue grant funding. The program also offers philanthropic organizations the opportunity to center their efforts on the organizations with the greatest need—an act of true equity.
How it works:

1. Grants & Donations
Individuals, government agencies, private foundations, and corporations provide tax-deductible* support for the program.

2. Free Grant Services
Funds are used to provide high-quality grant writing and grant management training and services to program participants free of charge.

3. Nonprofit Organizations
Nonprofits run by and for peopleĀ belonging to historically marginalized groups receive equitable access to funding opportunities.

4. Community Members
Participants who complete the program are better able to provideĀ crucial services to community members in need.

*Granted Access is set to become fiscally sponsored by Tides Foundation upon securing $100,000 in gift pledges. All gift made to the program are tax-deductible.
